Job Description

Job Description: DIRECT PATIENT CARE Admission and discharge of patients in the PICU Assessing a child's needs, identify the childrens symptoms and providing initial care. Admitting and providing round-the-clock care to the peadiatric patients and able to give emergency care and life saving measures. Caring the basic needs of pediatric patients; for example, nutrition, elimination, hygiene, etc., Able to assess peadiatric patients quickly, prioritize, and assist in minor procedures. Preparation and care of pediatric patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Constant Observing, recording and reporting of Pain, vital signs and other assessments. Formulating nursing care plans on priority basis and evaluating the effectiveness of treatments. Evaluating children for signs and symptoms of abuse. Administering medications, IV infusions, drawing blood, and giving childhood vaccinations following age-appropriate guidelines. Proficient in starting IV access for fluid administration and drug administration in the pediatric patients and follow the proper rights of medication administration. Ensure the proper drug dosage calculation based on the pediatric patient age and weight. Able to provide Basic life support and Pediatric Advanced cardiac life support if necessary. Closely monitor hemodynamically unstable patients and implement appropriate interventions. Assist the physician with procedures such as administering ET tube intubation, tracheostomy tube insertion, etc., Care of patients with cardiac monitors, defibrillators, prolonged mechanical ventilation, intubated and tracheostomy patients, etc., Ensure informed consent from the parents before doing any invasive procedures. Preparation of the needed articles, supplies and equipments before starting any life saving procedures. Collecting, labelling and dispatch of specimens. Collaborate with laboratory personnel and report lab findings back to physicians. Comply with all legal and safety requirements at all times. Abide by all hospital rules and regulations Communicate with pediatric patients, doctors and parents to keep everyone updated on test results and treatment recommendations. Being patience and dealing with the anxieties and demands of parents, and helping families to deal with their child's illness or injury. Provide follow up care instructions to patients, families and make necessary referrals. Report to physician immediately if pediatric patient develops any complications and implement the interventions as ordered. Monitor patients fluid intake and output to detect emerging problems such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances Ensuring ordering of therapeutic Diet through computer requests as instructed by consultant for patients. Coordination with physiotherapy, ambulation and rehabilitation departments. Carry out technical procedures, such as naso -gastric intubation, gastric lavage, oxygen therapy, etc., Able to do Dressings and irrigations, Enema, hot and cold applications, catheterisation, suction etc. Escorting serious patients to and from the emergency room. Follow strict aseptic technique before doing any procedures and follow the standards for infection control practices. Counselling patients and relatives and careful handling of pediatric patients. Providing supportive care to dying children. Documentation of all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. PICU MANAGEMENT Responsible for maintaining quality care standards, safety protocols and infection control measures in the PICU. Handing over and taking over charge of patients, procedures done and inventory in each shift. checking the working condition of the equipment and materials in the PICU periodically and report to the maintenance department if any problem identified immediately. Understand the medical equipment in PICU and operate it. Maintenance of therapeutic and hygienic environment in the PICU. Ensure the proper sterilisation of all the articles used before and after doing any procedures. Ensure the proper arrangement of crash cart in the PICU. Maintain Inventory of drugs properly. Maintaining Narcotic drugs safely and proper documentation of narcotic drugs. Keeping the PICU clean and tidy.. Maintaining the cleanliness of Crash carts, dressing trolleys, cupboards, apparatus, equipments, mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitors, etc. Care of clean and soiled linen. Disinfection of linen, beds, and sterilisation of articles and fumigation of rooms etc. Preparation of dressing trays, trolleys and sets before starting any procedure. Fumigating the PICU. Follow bio-medical waste management. Indenting of supplies needed in PICU. Participation in professional activities Demonstration and supervision of domestic staff Reporting any untoward incidents to PICU-in-charge.
