1. Clinical & Operational Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of all laboratory sections, including sample collection, processing, analysis, reporting, and disposal.
Ensure uninterrupted laboratory services for OPD, IPD, Emergency, ICU, and OT.
Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory investigations.
Ensure appropriate test selection, validation, and reporting practices.
2. Quality Assurance & NABH Compliance
Ensure compliance with NABH standards related to Diagnostic Services and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
Establish and monitor quality indicators such as TAT, sample rejection rates, critical value reporting, and internal audits.
Participate in internal audits, external audits, NABH assessments, and management review meetings.
Address non-conformities and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
3. Biosafety & Statutory Compliance
Ensure adherence to biosafety guidelines, infection control practices, and biomedical waste management rules.
Ensure compliance with applicable statutory requirements and accreditation standards.
Monitor calibration, validation, and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Ensure availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
4. Human Resource Management
Supervise pathologists, laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
Prepare duty rosters, ensure adequate staffing, and monitor attendance.
Conduct training, competency assessments, and continuing education programs for laboratory staff.
Participate in recruitment, appraisal, and disciplinary actions as per hospital HR policies.
5. Patient Safety & Care
Ensure proper patient identification, sample labeling, and specimen handling practices.
Ensure timely communication of critical and abnormal values to clinicians with proper documentation.
Address patient complaints and grievances related to laboratory services.
6. Documentation & Records Management
Ensure accurate documentation of test results, quality records, registers, and logs.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and ensure data security.
Ensure traceability of samples and reports through LIS/HIS systems.
7. Equipment, Inventory & Supply Chain Management
Monitor functionality and uptime of laboratory analyzers and equipment.
Coordinate with biomedical engineering and vendors for maintenance and breakdowns.
Manage inventory of reagents, consumables, kits, and control materials.
Ensure proper storage conditions and stock control to prevent expiry and wastage.
8. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with clinicians, nursing services, the infection control team, and hospital administration.
Participate in hospital committees such as the Infection Control Committee, Quality Committee, Safety Committee, and Medical Audit Committee.
Educational Qualification
MD / DNB Pathology or M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (as per regulatory requirements).
Valid registration with the State Medical Council / relevant statutory authority (where applicable).
Experience
Minimum 5–10 years of relevant laboratory experience.
Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.
Experience in an NABH-accredited or quality-accredited laboratory is desirable.

Sound knowledge of NABH standards, quality control, and laboratory regulations.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency in LIS/HIS systems and laboratory automation.
Working Conditions
